SAL Division 4 - 22nd October 2005
We still make life difficult for ourselves. The new look team with Peter Lester at centre back and Mark Raven making his debut at centre forward, started off slowly, missing early opportunities to score. Unfortunately I was involved in a dodgy decision to which the referee chose to give a penalty. I can assure you that I was merely chasing back and the opposite number ran into my leg. The referee was still in the opposition's penalty box and gave a penalty. When your luck's down it's down.
We picked ourselves up and equalised through a magnificent thrown in by James Thorley assisted across the line by Alex Kiszczuk. 1-1 at half time.
With the bit between our teeth we pushed on. The referee then gave another very dodgy penalty for a handball - this time in our favour - evening things up. This was smashed in by debutant Mark Raven. We then started to play some wonderful stuff. Danny Berry coming alive in his white boots scoring a spectacular long range effort. 3-1 and coasting.
But as we seem to have the unhappy knack of doing, we then took the 'foot off the pedal' and let them score two goals. 3-3. I was furious. Fortunately up stepped Matt Huffer heading in a corner a la John Terry / Sami Hyypia. 4-3 and the ref blew the whistle.
A win at last!! Boy do we make it hard for ourselves. Special mention to Dave Winister for a couple of outstanding saves and to Mark Raven - his strength and touch and overall influence on the team was a big plus. Also fair play to the lads substituted - they didn't moan, giving their colleagues a run out. At Chislehurst we were 1-0 up at half time and went on to lose five two and against Civil we contrived to give a late equaliser away after dominating the game. For any of my team reading this please be aware that it is important to meet on time. We didn't leave until 1:30 in the end as opposed to the 1 o'clock meet.
Furthermore the following people owe the following money:
See you Thursday at Training and the day after at the Race Night.
