SAL Division 4 - 11 February 2006
With Messrs Raven, Appleton, Johnson, Lester, Thorley, McLaughlin all missing for one reason or another we put together a scratch side to play HSBC meaning a return for yours truly and Danny Berry and his white boots after three months. We were fortunate to play on the play Pitch 2 which was like a carpet. We dominated the game failing to put chances into goals and you're always risking a quick breakaway or a set piece goal etc. We went one nil up through Elliot Stevens before adding a second up via MOM Ross Davies. Two nil up at half time but it really should have been 5 or 6. HSBC came back very strongly putting our goal under quite some pressure. We then went three nil up through Ross's second goal which was very well taken. His speed caused their back four problems all afternoon and it was good to see some old fashioned wing play i.e. watching our man cruise by their full back and finishing or even a cross or two.
The visitors weren't finished, scoring a goal which had been coming as they did play well in patches. I hold my hand up I began to tire in midfield allowing them to dominate. Pleased to hear the final whistle so I could plug in my oxygen mask!
A good win after a hard week of players pulling out. Well done to the back four - not too much Boumsong and Bramble this week. Thanks to Wini in showing such passion as he left the field to allow the substitute a run out for 30 mins. Alex up front had a frustrating afternoon but fortunately others were in hand to score the goals.
See you at training
