SAL Division 4 - 18 February 2006

First and foremost before and after football I need EVERYONE to help out with the nets goals etc etc.  Some of my players chose to muck about rather than just get on with it.  I should not have to continually babysit to ensure such basic things are done - we lost a practice ball and set of pegs!

Oh yes and the game.  Hard fought affair which at times boiled over.  We struggled to get to grips with the size of the third team pitch.  We went one nil up through Danny Berry and subject to some excellent defending from Messrs Polley and Meadowcroft, the scoreline remained at one nil.  I was deputising for Matt Huffer and doing a good impersonation of Titus Bramble!

Second half we brought on Mark Raven and Peter Lester back from their hols.  We didn't play the pitch well allowing the opposition to go 2:1 up.  Early in the season we may well have gone on to lose the game but this side has developed and toughened up somewhat.  We rolled up our sleeves and through Danny Berry who completed his hatrick and Matthew McLaughlin (who owes a tenner), went 4:2 up.  One of Danny's  goals was a Glen Hoddle special and another goal was the result of a good Tom Scola cross and the third resulted from a header won by Mark Raven against two of the opposition - a fantastic flick on of a ball he had no right to win.

4:2 up and the game was won until things started to boil over as the opposition were clearly upset having dragged themselves back from a goal behind lead 2:1 then losing 4:2 taking their frustrations Croydon and District style out on the referee!

We allowed them a goal at the end through a free kick which rebounded and we didn't follow up. The referee then blew his whistle.

In the cold light of day a good win, but its not just about playing football.  Some of my players need to grow up a bit!

See you at training.
