SAL Division 3 - 21st October 2006

Great effort but couldn’t convert chances.  We paid the penalty.

Again we started off very well and had loads of chances with Mark Raven fresh from the Dentist Chair having various shots saved by their goalie.  Standing on the side lines it was painful.  Please let one go in.  At this rate church may be an option.  We played some lovely stuff with Steve Smith and Gary Blackman outstanding at the back.  The worst situation was when James hit the inside of the post and I mean inside and it rebound across the front of goal instead of into the net.  I just couldn’t believe it - the ball didn’t run kindly even for a tap in.

Well like last week we paid the price.  Early in the second half the referee gave them a penalty supposedly for a push in the box by Elliott.  Everybody had turned away including Poly only to find the referee pointing at the penalty spot.  0-1 down and we had to keep going.  We pushed for the equaliser but it wouldn’t happen and they quite simply caught us on the break… 0-2.

We then had a penalty claim turned down when Fitz was obstructed to tap a goal in - again I couldn’t believe it!

Anyway no good moaning about luck etc we need to finish.  Politely talking to the referee afterwards he said we should have been three up before half time.  Our own fault.  They took their chances and we didn’t ours.

Anyway we must move on…
