It was good to play on Pitch 2 after so many games in the park.  As is the norm, we started well, dominated play but couldn’t find the back of the net.  Both Lee Byrne and Alex came very close.  Harrison in goal had only one back pass to deal with all half.  With no Gary Blackman – a groin injury has finished his season - Steve Smith marshalled the defence alongside Lee Woodward; a bit dodgy at first…but I have no doubt that this was more to do with the 8 pints of Stella from the previous evenings events!

Half time team talk was to keep going keep playing which we did until Smithy did an impression of Franz Beckenbauer but unfortunately ended up doing a Titus Bramble.  Between them Harrison and Matt Trumper cleared off the line but the referee chose to give a goal.  To be fair nobody gave up.  We threw the lot at them before Matt Vellacott equalised.  We then pushed on again and again.  I really thought Alex had scored in the last minute but unfortunately he put it over the bar.

Back on Pitch 2 the team played very well.  Harrison had little to do and both Matts after their efforts with the Vets came back to strengthen the team.  Mike Harwood was much more like his old self flying down the flanks and putting some great crosses in.  Elliott did his best but couldn’t dig the ball out from his feet to shoot properly.  Alex did everything but score.  I asked at the start for 100% and to be fair the lads gave just that.  It was good to see Peter Lester back and Matt Mcloughan after nearly a year out with a knee injury ironically sustained against Old Actionians last year!
