SAL – 13 December 2003

An excellent performance on a dreadful pitch with a much changed side.   We controlled the game from the outset playing some very good football on a pitch which was not dissimilar to the Old Lyonians 'pitch' all those years ago.  See Messrs Huffer Polley etc.  We can only assume the sheep were moved off during the morning!   Despite controlling the game during the first half we yet again found it difficult to turn our possession into goals.   At half time we were very much concerned 'not to get mugged' - it would have been awful to go all that way, play so well and lose by a silly breakaway goal.

Fortunately this did not happen.  We simply kept going and going playing good football.  Eventually the breakthrough came from Rory O'Brien who consequently went on and scored a hatrick.  This was finished off by a Barry Gowland special.  He practically mugged Dick Polley  in the air to score.   Sufficient time existed to give Luke Boughton another run out.

We needed a win and now we must build on it.   I was especially pleased with the two full backs Tom and Barry who not only gave us good options when going forward but also covered our more experienced centre backs Messrs Boughton and Polley.   A big thank you to Giles Warrell and Gary S for not complaining when substituted.  It would have been unfair to go all that way and not give the subs a run out.  At 3-0 up no one really wants to come off but I appreciated both those lads team effort.

I trust everyone is looking forward to next week's home game . ALL PLAYERS TO BRING THEIR DISCO SHIRT FOR NIGHT OUT AFTERWARDS
