SAL – 10 January 2004
Bearing in mind we had something like 9 players ten minutes before kick off, started with a bare eleven, had a player sent off, not to mention the three or four players who had to play on injured, this was an a superb result against a very physical side on the small pitch which helped their game enormously in the second half when they continued to launch the aerial ball into our goal mouth. Both teams took a while to adapt to the conditions. Chances fell either way with a nil nil score line at half time.
Second half, Jay Breen and Andy Bitmead as well
as Daniel started to play up front, with their lumbering centre
halves chasing shadows. Scott Linton scored from a corner much to everyone's
relief. A further goal came from Jay before Polytechnic scored from an
audacious free kick (no whistle, people still arguing etc). We then scored a
third to make it three-one. Poly managed to scramble a late goal. We did have further
chances on the break and both myself and Danny Berry should have scored.
The game at times became over physical but I was ever so pleased with the way
the players conducted themselves. The rather robust centre half who came on
seemed determined to have a fight when sent up front and could not deal with
being beaten in the air
The whole back
four played extremely well. Luke Boughton (please don't pick the ball up
again) did very well bearing in mind his age and size when compared to the
opposition. Merrs Boughton and Polley also held the centre very well.
Myself, I couldn't walk the following morning after a couple of bangs to the ankle had to be driven to the swimming pool on Sunday so I could at least hobble to work on Monday. What a game. Well done to all the 6's involved. Same again next week????
