AFA Intermediate Novets Cup First Round - 15th October 2005

We finally kicked off at 3.20pm against 10 men.

In the first half we looked very unsettled.  The passing was terrible but we still created some chances and could not hit a cow's backside with a banjo.  Tony Edwards got pulled over on the edge of the box after chasing another stray pass and was rewarded with a penalty.  This was smashed straight at their keeper who I think was trying to get out of the way.  David Robins hit the post from another penalty 5 minutes later after their keeper dragged down Tony.  He might have been sent off but the ref decided on a yellow.

We went 0-1 down due to some sloppy defending and missed chance after chance at the other end.  It didn’t look as if it was going to be our day…

Some bloke turned up for them who looked about 80 years old.  I thought he was someone's grandad who had come along to watch but put a blue shirt on and did rather well.

The second half started and the super slade came on to replace Ginger Ed and Big Ed came on to replace Ben.  I was very impressed with Steve’s no nonsense approach as he swiftly let their right winger know that he was on the pitch with some crunching tackles. This lad is always 100%.

Roberto Carlo continued with his silky runs, which paid off.  He put a nice ball through to Robins who slipped it in. 1-1.  Game on.  Tony scored a nice goal and Justin put another one in for good measure. 3-1 up

Chambers pulled up with a thigh strain with 25 minutes to go and I came on.  I didn’t play well and almost scored an own goal with a bad back pass.   Andrew did the same with 10 minutes to go but their striker got on the end of it, went passt James Holland and scored.  It made the last 10 minutes a bit more interesting.

Best ref this year to date!  10 out of 10. Thanks Curtis

Man of the match was Roberto Carlos.  I just wish he would release the ball a bit earlier.

If we play this badly and win I think we will do rather well this year.
