AFA Intermediate Novets Cup - 10th December 2005
We went 0-1 down again. A corner kick was delivered in the first minute. Nigel came out but got beaten in the air as he tried to punch the ball out. Just before this he did pull off a fine save that was going straight into the top corner.
This got everyone going after a poor start and we started to control the game. We won a corner which Dave Robins delivered to perfection. The ball was not cleared and James Chambers slotted the ball in the back on the net.
10 minutes later we won another corner and Dave managed to kick the deck, then the corner flag, then the ball. He was in trouble after that with a bad ankle injury and came off 15 minutes into the second half. We all wish him well and hope he’s back after Christmas scoring lots of goals. I just wish I had a camcorder as this one was worth more than £250.
We battled extremely well with 10 men and got a free kick outside the box, which Big Ed hit straight at their goalkeeper. The keeper dropped it in front of me and after hitting at his chest twice I managed to slot it in the corner of the net. 2-1 up and we looked in control until they scored from the edge of the box.
2-2 and with 1 minute on the clock and extra time looming, the whippet (Justin Said) went around 2 defenders then the goalkeeper and passed it into the middle of the goal.
A great cup result and a good all round performance.
Its difficult to pick man of the match as everyone played well but I think James Chambers deserves it. Great defending and a well-taken goal to boot.
