SAL Division 4 - 23 September 2006
To lose two games in a row is an unfair reflection of how our team has performed in the last two games. A Carshalton team that was very slow off the mark was all over the place to begin with and were deservedly punished from a powerful header from a corner inside the first 10 mins of the game. However this seemed to be a wake up call to many of our players who knew that we were a team that is capable of very good football and able to control the tempo of the game. From the tenth minute we seemed to be in cruise control with some very neat football from all 11 players on the pitch. This led to our equaliser with our left back Mark Edmonds getting into the 6 yard box and completely scuffing a shot. However I have been assured it was on purpose as it sent the keeper the wrong way and allowed Mark to nestle the ball in the back of the net.Good football was being shown left, right and centre from Carshalton and when Alleyn had their best chance of the 1st half, a chip over keeper Adam Simpson who had come to the edge of his box, it was Craig Trewin, with the build of Neil Ruddock and grace of Ronaldinho, who bicycle kicked the ball off the line. With Alleyns standing in amazement of what they had just seen, Carshalton played on with enthusiasm. Man Of The Match Matthew Perkins received the ball with his back to the goal, took it upon himself to run at goal with a few jinks left and right and nicely placed the ball past the diving goalkeeper into the bottom corner.
The half time whistle came and we knew we were on a high after playing well and dominating much of the first half. However those who read my match report last week knew that our second half performance was poor and thinking that 2-1 up and playing well, many of our players seemed to think it was job done. We were then taught the true meaning of the famous saying "its a game of two halves" by a more powerful Alleyns side. They came out at us and started asking Carshalton questions which we just did not answer. Heads dropped and players moaned and our strong defence was broken with about 20 minutes to go - a shot from the corner of the box which crept neatly past diving goalkeeper Adam Simpson who by this time had made many impressive saves to keep us in the game. After keeping Alleyns at bay for a bit longer, they received a corner with a few minutes to go. It was more of the great delivery of the corner which was inswinging to the back post than the 5 or 6 Alleyns players bundling the ball past the line.
In many eyes it was a harsh result for us. However it is known by all player that if we are to take points from games, we have to show as much commitment and discipline in the second half as we do in the first half. Just to let my team know that next week I wish to be writing a match report about a great 90 minutes resulting in a win!
Lets start our season now!! MOM Matt Perkins - well played mate.
