SAL Division 4 - 30 September 2006
Finally our first league win of the season. To be the team that came out on to of a 9 goal thriller was very much deserved by the 6's and has now given us something to shout about.
You could tell this game had many goals in it from the off as with only a matter of minutes played Matt Perkins bright movement gave him the space to slot the ball past the keeper. We were on a high. Only after a matter of minutes however Alleyn made sure that the high didn't last long and about 10 mins later they had equalised from a shot just outside the area. They were then to go a goal ahead from almost the exact same goal about 5 minutes after the first. 1-2 down and Carshalton out in more and more effort. James Greenslade's goal kicks seemed to have a helpful effect as they reach the opposition's area on a number of occasions. Piling on pressure, Carshalton were desperately seeking the goal that they truly deserved. A throw from Andy Bitmead snr, that never touched the floor, was nodded on by Chris French which was flicked on by Tom Thoroughgood and neatly headed over the goalkeeper by Tyrone Knight drew Carshalton level and deservedly so. Half time came and we all knew we could be leading the game. A few people were thinking about the next half as we knew from our last 2 games our second half performances always seemed to be second best.
The second half started and just as before we were to go a goal ahead early in the second half. A cross from the byline which was left by Bradley Room was nicely put into the roof of the net by Matthew Perkins. However just as before, Alleyns were to reply - a looping cross this time was headed into the net. The next 20 minutes or so were to be tightly contested. The defence, consisting of Dave Thoroughgood, James Greenslade, Ross Wilding and Mark Edmonds, playing well and Adam Simpson making a few saves at our end. Along with Tyrone's 1 on 1 chance that ended up inches over the bar and Tom Thoroughgood's header from a Bradley Room corner was to hit the inside of the post only to be saved on the line. A change was needed to be made and on came Craig Trewin replacing the injured Andy Bitmead. With about 15 minutes to go, a Carshalton throw taken by Mark Edmonds was thrown into the path of Tom Thoroughgood whose touch went past the defender and left him to slot home. Roughly 5 mins later, James Greenslade's goal kick which found Bradley Room on the edge of the area was elegantly flicked over the head of the defender and slid to Chris French who drove home from about 12 yards out. Alleyn were only able to add a consolation goal at the end when a shot from the edge of the area dropped over the head of Adam Simpson and nestled into the goal.
Finally the win I have been looking forward to post. Well played lads - same again at Lloyds please.
MOM Tyrone Knight - well played; nice goal to cap it off!
Tom Thoroughgood
