SAL Division 4 - 21 October 2006
An injury struck 6s side travelled to Ealing this week to take on top of the league side BB Eagles 5s. We really needed to take 3 points away from this game to get ourselves back on track. Things started well with many early chances - the best of which fell to Tyrone Knight who somehow managed to clear the bar from 5 yards. Nevertheless, we struck first with Andy Bitmead Jnr. slotting home a neat left footed shot. 1-0 up and things were looking good.
However, anyone who has played for us this season will tell you that when we go up, its certain that we will soon be behind. And this followed this week. Soon we were 2-1 down. On the brink of half time, Andy put a fantastic through ball to Matt Perkins who was able to slot it past the keeper for a much deserved equaliser. We went into half time confident and raring to grab a winner.
The second half started and it wasn't long before Dave Thoroughgood gave away a penalty. They converted and again we found ourselves a goal down. This was soon followed by a 4th from BB Eagles. Things went from bad to worse when our best player of the day, Chris French, took a knock to the head and had to come off. Along with this, Tyrone Knight's ongoing foot injury forced a double substitution. 20 minutes from time and we were back in with a shout when Bradley Room's exceptional fall in the box awarded us a penalty which Andy Bitmead was able to coolly finish.
For the last 20 minutes, we had the vast majority of possession but it wasn't our day. The game finished 4-3 to BB Eagles, but heads were high after a great performance.
Man of the Match- Chris French. Well done mate
Chris Mingay
