SAL Cup - 2 December 2006

A 2 hour journey to East Barnet with the bare 11 players was made worse when we discovered their pitches were waterlogged and we had to travel further to play on a tiny pitch on a slope. We lost the toss and were given the uphill leg first.  Straight away we were on top, Tyrone Knight hitting the post within 15 seconds and winning a corner. After lots of pressure after that, we finally took the lead.  Matt Perkins squeezing in a left footed effort from a
tight angle.

We then grew complacent for a period of 5 minutes in which EBOG were able to equalise.  The whole team's fault! However we realised our complacency and took the lead again. A scramble on the goal line led to Mark Edmonds finding the roof of the net from 2 yards. Another Matt Perkins shot across goal found the net. 3-1 up and very confident.  Everyone was battling hard and seemed to really want it.  The fourth and final of the half came from Bradley Room who has been scoring consistently recently.  Another goal line scramble earned him his fourth of the season. Half time 4-1 to Cars, and the advantage of the downhill slope.

The second half started badly, EBOG scoring first. 4-2!  Once in a blue moon will you see a goal like Bradley Room's second.  Taking the ball round the goal keeper, running it to the line and then lobbing the keeper whilst curling it into the bottom corner.  Absolutely superb.  However, there is the possibility that he was just trying to cross it?! Again EBOG scored - credit to them for not dropping their heads.

However the game was wrapped up when a Chris Mingay corner was pounced on by James Greenslade and headed home.  A really deserved goal for a fantastic performance from him.  The last goal of the match came from a throw in.  James Greenslade's huge throw found the back post, where super centre back Tom Thoroughgood was waiting to nod it home.

A confident performance which was also very encouraging.

Man of the Match- Jimbo. Quality this week. Well done

Tom Thoroughgood
