Apologies for all those expecting a flowery match
report, full of semi-humorous anecdotes about the lead up to the
match, but I'm writing it sober this week.
Expectations of a powerful display, full of
flowing football, to match the excitement of playing on the first
team pitch, were quickly tempered by the realisation that Simon
Clare was turning out for us. And how right we were to be
tempered...we were mostly rubbish.
First 20 minutes - there's not a notable point to
be made about our performance. Maybe except Chris Wells falling
over and hurting his bottom, and if you've seen the size of his bum,
you'll know it must have been a fall from a great height. We gave
the ball away constantly, and didn't really bother to fight to get
it back. I'm sure it didn't help that half the team got smashed at
one party or another the night before.
The Eagles scored their first from a breakaway,
when it appeared that we were attempting to play offside, and their
number 11 scored with aplomb.
They scored their second, once again from a
breakaway, when we gave the ball away just inside their half. The
ball was cut back from the by line and their midfielder smashed it
in from just inside the box.
The killer third was fired in from 20 yards after
we'd had chances to clear, and the fella hit the ball so hard in off
the underside of the bar that I'm sure I could still hear the
woodwork humming 10 minutes later...
Now there is no doubt that our performance
improved in the second half and we created at least 8-9 chances, the
closest of which fell to Zom who crashed the ball against the bar
from about 17 inches out. But this is comparable to saying that
it's better to have rectal piles than to have genital warts.
Their 4th came with roughly 10 minutes to go, but
to be honest I'm past caring about it to say anymore...
One or two players did a decent job last
Saturday. Nine or ten didn't. (I can say this as I'm the
one writing this report). However, we have to play this lot again on
19/12 in the semi-final of the SAL cup, and if we play then as we
did on Saturday, there certainly won't be a final.
