Old Stationers

1

Carshalton 7th XI

4 Colin Banham 2, Ryan Roberts, O.G.

SAL  – 5th October 2002

First game of the season and three points on the board.  Some clever official at the club assured us at the back end of last season that we could finally sell our tents and other bits of camping gear as three day hikes via Istanbul to North London were no more -"..reallocation of the teams.."said he, laughing quietly into his warm bitter.  Alas no, so having met at East Croydon on Wednesday we set off for Palmers Green, finally arriving at our destination with an hour and a half to spare.  Thank heavens for Nick Cook's extensive bag of supplies.

We started well, the wind and the slope in our favour.  Banham banged in the first with some help from their goalie.  The second was a fine own goal from one of their centre halves........ Carshalton then proceeded to waste some great chances.  Steve Ollington was clean through but managed to land his shot from six yards out in the corner for a throw in.  Memories of Geoff Thomas circa '92?  Banham hit the woodwork twice and Nick Cook came close with a shot from just outside the area.

The second half was going to be more difficult - uphill for the first time (Dylan) and the wind against us (Dylan again).  Two more goals followed though - a Razza Roberts flying header - blood everywhere, and one more fine finish from Banham.  Nothing changes really - Hicksey opened his gob and Dylan covered every blade of grass.....................................in the centre circle.

Mark and Martin got bored and decided to have a go at bumper cars.  Stationers scored quite a good goal and quick as a flash, it was all over (Dylan).

3 benefits of the game:

1. three points
2. one less trip to North London.
3. Nick Cooks bag of treats that he robbed from the guy in the bogs in Pals.

3 Concerns:

1. Stevo's miss.
2. Dylan's toe of love.
3. Stevo.

PS: If any team need their kit washed then Dylan May has, rumour has it, a new washing machine at his new gaff and needs to give it a thorough testing.

Norseman next Saturday - can't wait.
