SAL – 9th November 2002
Ahhh Norseman, those fellows in blue from yonder reaches of North Londinium. Always guaranteed to give a good game. Having meet their 7's in an earlier league encounter, this was our first liaison with their 8s, a team we played against in the cup last year, narrowly losing 2 -1.
It
all started brightly for Cars, going one goal ahead in the first five
minutes. Pete Wetheridge, who looks as if he will play in every position
this season, popped up to finish off a good move that began with Nick Cook's
hard challenge in midfield. Norsemen soon equalised, sloppy defending at a
corner allowed their striker to head in a simple goal. Honours were even
at half time. The only other talking point was a rather harsh challenge on
Colin Banham from the Norseman goalkeeper. Lenny put him in the book, but
a picture tells a thousand stories
Norseman went into the lead into the second half from a mix up in the Carshalton defence. Colin Banham pulled things back from the penalty spot to even the contest, but two further goals in the last 15 minutes capped a sorry day for the 7s. Not a great performance, although Nick Cook's 25 yarder came down off the wrong side of the crossbar and Dylan May's header also struck the woodwork.
There could have been more chances if we had made better use of our possession, but on too many occasions hopeful balls were pumped up front that the Norseman defenders lapped up.
EBOGs on Saturday. 22 - 1 is our target.
PS Thanks to Paul Lambert for his Ron Manager style of coaching.
PPS If anyone has a day off this week, please feel free to join our midfield steam train, Dylan May, whilst he revises for his 11 plus. He will be watching repeated episodes of Sesame Street, taking time off to practice dance moves perfected by 'H', from Steps.
This match report was brought to you by the letter J and the number 6.
