SAL – 23rd November 2002
Another cup game against opposition that were a novelty, for a change. One positive though, an outing on a very good 2nd XI pitch that had survived all the rain of the previous week. The 7s were depleted in their numbers. Mark Brown, our usual goalkeeper was unavailable so in stepped Andy from the 8s. Nick Cook was stocking up on toiletries in NYC and Dylan May was hunting for that elusive personalised number plate. Thankfully, Pete 'Beavis' Wetheridge had returned unscathed from his trip to Manchester and The Boy Banham managed to drag himself out of bed. Michael Pickett and Billy from the 8's were the new editions.
Cars took a 2 - 0 lead. Both goals came from Michael Pickett after some comedy defending from Salvatorians. Despite the lead, Cars could not add to the tally, despite forcing a number of crosses into the box. Salvo's came back with a freakish goal that spooked everyone, 2 - 1 at half time.
Cars went further ahead in the second half. Michael Pickett completed his hat trick after Billy's long range shot had rebounded off a post. Michael added a fourth when his shot took a deflection off a Salvo's defender. At the other end, Hicksy, Stevo, Raaz and Pete kept the Salvo's attack quiet. Jay and Colin bossed the midfield.
A fifth was added when James Greenslade's freekick was followed up by Matt Parker. Sub Matt Brown added the sixth and put in some handy crosses from the right hand side too. Onward in the second cup competition. Could it be the year???
