SAL Division 6 South  – 17th September 2005

A superb result by the 7s against a club who are historically very strong, made all the more pleasurable by the fact we were 2-0 down early in the second half!

It was easy to see from the first half performance that this was the first game of the season but it was evident some things haven’t changed over the summer -  Rick certainly intends to hold on to the record for average number of misses per game – something that I used to have a stranglehold on for most of my seasons at the club! Perhaps early retirement does beckon for me after all…….!

Anyway, the less said about the first half the better although special mention goes to Mark in goal who pulled off some terrific saves and definitely kept us in it to go in at half-time only 1-0 down.  HSBC scored again early in the second half but then the tide turned.  Rick, already in pole position for the Rosenthal trophy, missed from 3 yards with only the net in the way but then “Tango” pulled one back.  Probably no coincidence but I was then substituted with about 25 minutes left and almost immediately we were level.  Their heads dropped, ours went up and we took full advantage scoring three more times (even Rick managed to put the ball between the posts and not round one of them) but it could and perhaps should have been more!

A great start to the campaign and if we play like we did in the second half, all season, who knows…….?
