Carshalton 7s

1 Rick Morris

SAL Division 6 South  – 8th October 2005

As soon as we arrived at the car park everything started to go wrong for the 7s. Many of us hadn’t read the text message properly and were off to the wrong Riverside Drive; luckily Joe Cox set us straight.  Arriving at Kew we found the facilities were "in transition" with the changing rooms in the clubhouse, the showers in a cubical away from the changing room and the clubhouse now in a shed.  Looking forward to the new facilities!

Never mind, our recent good form saw us in good spirits, apart from Chris Rose who was at the wrong Riverside Drive!  As we walked out on to the pitch many of our team recognised some of the opposition from the programme Fash FC - err no ringers then.  With the pitch un-cut, heavy and bumpy the game started poorly but we battled hard against a strong side.

Then the break through came with Rick Morris latching on to a through ball to slot home passed the keeper, in fairness we scored against the run of play.  From then on in we started to put pressure on ourselves by playing too many long balls and conceding possession too easily.

This led to Kew equalising just before half time.  A stern team talk from Pete Taylor sent us out fired up, but to no avail - our possession was still poor and the refereeing decisions were so one sided I honestly thought we were at Old Trafford!  Rick Morris was free down the left when the ‘keeper came flying out missed the ball but not Rick, the decision just a free kick.  Decisions continued to go against us but we held firm especially man of the match Mark Brown whose saves kept the score down, but soon the pressure was too much.

The defence started to get overrun and Kew scored two quick goals.  Then Michael Taylor came on and ran at the defence causing no end of problems, culminating in a one on one with the ‘keeper.  Kew’s ‘keeper rushed out, Michael chipped it over his head only for the ‘keeper to handball deliberately, surely he must be sent off.  NO! The ref said that because we were two goals down he thought it wasn’t worth it.  Didn't read that one in the Laws of the Game.!

Then to end proceedings an own goal scored with his unmentionables by Ryan Roberts, oh the indignity of it all.
