SAL Division 5 - 4th November 2006
All looked good. We got there early, had more than 11 players, 11 kits and we even had travelling support in Mr Danny "legend" Collins! In fact we got there so early that we even had time for a cuppa, courtesy of our number one fan Danny! cheers Dan!
We started the game with the image that it's going to be a walk over due to our previous form. How wrong we were. All credit to Old Wilsonians who started extremely well. From the off they were right in our faces, causing us all sorts of problems.
We needed halftime to come urgently so our skipper could have a rethink about our tactics. Unfortunately the inevitable happened shortly before halftime - they scored.
Our skipper Rick Morris gave us a fantastic team talk. It was just what we needed. We started the second half like a team possessed. Old Wilsonians must have thought we made 11 changes at half time. Within the space of 15 minutes we were 4-1 up. J Breen scored a good one on one. Less than 5 minutes later the ball was cleared out of their area, unfortunately for them their 25 yard clearance landed on J Breen's right peg.... the ball thundered into the bottom corner, the keeper didn't even move. He probably didn't even see it. Brilliant goal.
Again within minutes we had another contender for goal of the day... Steve Hayes picked out Tony Barrett on the edge of the box, where using his weaker foot he sent a screamer again into the bottom corner. Fantastic goal.
Richard scored a tap in made by Adam Lemon's amazing run from the half way line! Quality. 4-1 up and we were cruising. We started to take it a little too easy. Old Wilsonians took full advantage of this and scored their second very controversial goal. 4-2.
We knew we had to put the game well out of their reach. We went up another gear. Adam Lemon picked the ball up on the edge of the box and performed a mazy run finished by a descent strike across goal! Super goal... 3 contenders for goal of the day. I can't decide!
The main thing is we got another big 3 points to keep us at the top of the league. Final score 5-2.
I do believe these whispers of trophies just got a little louder. Well done boys and girls. Quality second half performance. Poor first half though. MOM Tony Barrett - well done Tone!
