AFA Junior Novets Cup - 16th December 2006
Carshalton 7s ended 2006 with an impressive display to progress to the last 16 of the AFA Cup. Cars started well on a barely playable pitch, winning five successive corners in the early minutes, but without main aerial threat Rick Morris failed to convert any of them. The inevitable sucker punch followed shortly afterwards. A break down the Carshalton right resulted in the South Bank striker slotting a ball into an empty net.
However, Cars kept playing their football and before long were level, Adam Lemon applied good pressure to the opposition centre half and his poor back pass was flicked over the onrushing keeper by Jay Breen.
This goal opened the floodgates for Carshalton strikers Breen and Lemon, who helped themselves to five goals apiece at regular intervals. Memorable strikes include a left foot rocket by Lemon and a fine solo run by Breen, which sparked the inevitable comparisons between him George Best in the clubhouse afterwards.
All in all a good result on an awful day, notable also for Jim Armstrong and Jon Hill joining the Golden Boot list with tidy close range finishes. Adam Lemon received Man of the Match for his 5 goals and high work rate. Last 16 here we come!Matt Boyman
