AFA Junior Novets Cup Quarter Final - 27th January 2007

A beautiful journey half way around the M25 for this cup quarter final game.  We turned up eager and ready for a battle on a pitch that was in comparison to our own park pitch.  The referee failed to turn up so we had a late kick off.  Whilst we where waiting, our top striker Jay Breen managed to smash his foot in trying to hit an outside of the boot free kick whilst practicing (what a David Walliams lookalike spanner)

The game eventually got going when we stole a ref from another not so important game.  The game was set at a high pace with Carshalton dominating from the start.  Jay Breen and Adam Lemon both went close, but could not find the killer touch.  We went in at half time with all of the possession but no goals to show for it.

The second half started the same with Carshalton dominating, but then disaster struck.  Winchmore got two quick goals from nowhere.  0-2 down and looking as though we where leaving the cup competition... cue the comeback.  From this point on we outplayed our opposition all over the pitch with Matt Boyman seeming to be everywhere, and Bramble and Boumsong stopping everything at the back.

Carshalton finally got their reward when an injured Jay Breen sent Adam Lemon through with an inch perfect pass which he gratefully smashed home.  The second Cars goal was another good combination from Jay and Adam (can any defences stop these two mince bags), Adam getting his second of the game and surely putting some distance between him and his challengers for the Golden Boot.  Cars went all out to get the winner but ran out of time.

Extra time - the ref had to cut short the extra time to 10 mins each way due to the late kick off.  We where determined to give it our all in extra time as we had previously lost 3 games in extra time to this Winchmore Hill team.  Cars had the better of both halves but couldn't find the back of the net.  We had to rely on an amazing last minute save from Mark to keep us in the game.  And so so came the final whistle and penalties.

We struggled to get 5 players to want to take the pens due to injuries...

1st... Tony B stepped up and smashed one home ............they scored
2nd... Jon Hill  smashed his one home............   they missed
3rd... Grant Collins scores ........................... they miss
4th... Matt Boyman steps for the pen to win us the game... and smashes one straight in

A very good team display from the 7s.  Roll on the semis.  Also thanks to Lemo for driving us round the Enfield one way system 8 times on the way home.....and driving the whole way round the M25
