SAL Division 5 - 10th March 2007
Just before a cup final against a very strong side this performance was a little worrying to say the least. Improvement all round the side is necessary if we are to stand a chance of winning next week. Much of the possession was enjoyed by Lloyds to begin with, who seemed much more up for it.
It was a brave diving header from Steve Hayes latching onto a Rich Clark corner that eased the pressure. Some last ditch tackles and an unbelievable Cruyff turn off the line by massive defensive genius Jon Hill kept Lloyds at bay. And after juggling the ball past two defenders Jay Breen knocked the ball to Clarky who drilled it home with a very nice finish.
Finishing the first half with a two goal lead we took our foot off the pedal and became very casual. Although not creating many dangerous chances, Lloyds were knocking the ball around and enjoyed the best of the possession. The times we did have the ball and could have put their defence under pressure, we looked very casual and wasted opportunities.
Corners from Clarky and Breeno were driven in and resulted in some scrappy chances, and the Lloyds keeper made a couple of good saves. Outstanding battling down the right hand side by Hammond and Clarky hindered the breakaway attacks Lloyds were trying to create. Commendable performance by the back four who looked organised and helped Marky Brown to our second clean sheet this season.
Keep on keeping on boys, let’s step it up next week and get the ‘Super 7s’ our first piece of silverware.
