SAL Division 7 – 7th October 2006

After an easy win in their first ever game the 8's were expecting more of a challenge from Old Actonians, and so it was to prove. With very few changes from our first game, the 8s kicked off into the sun and a slight breeze. Old Actonians soon showed some good footballing ability and it looked as though it was to be a difficult afternoon.  With Cars struggling  a bit in the middle O A's were well on top at the start of the game. Cars were battling hard and for a new team were holding their own.  A free kick just outside the area gave O A's a chance which they took beautifully with a well taken free kick into the top corner.  O A's were on top and added another before half time.

With a couple of changes at half time we were hopeful of improvement with the sun and the breeze behind us now.  Cars started positively but gave away a cheap goal to go 3 down.  The lads kept their heads up though and started to become more dominant, particularly through M.Winnister and Louis on the flanks with Lyndon blocking up the middle well.  Derek Livett pulled one back pouncing on a rebound and the Cars were off, threatening more and making things difficult for the opposition.  A free kick on the left hand edge of the area gave Winnie a great chance which he took with a brilliant shot into the top far corner.  Our tails were up, O A's  were still proving a handful on the break but a long free kick taken by Luke from 7 yds. inside his own half bounced over the opposition keeper to bring the Cars level.  It was now a real end to end game, but with only minutes to play O A's got the winner.

For only their second game together the 8s were fantastic and are starting to gel better and better.  It could be a really great season.
