SAL Division 7 – 14th October 2006
On a beautiful autumn Saturday the 8s were determined to get back to winning ways and started the game very brightly. Lloyds showed early that they were going to be dangerous on the break but the 8s were playing some good football. However, this was to be a day when the Cars finishing was to let them down. Lloyds counter attacking proved deadly and by half time they were two goals to the good - a score which truly did not reflect the balance of play.
Cars started well again in the second half and some speedy wing play from Joseph Kechie led to him getting his first goal for the Cars this season. The introduction of Michael Winnister at half time enabled us to threaten more and 'Winnie' scored his second in two games, lifting the ball skillfully over the very good Lloyd's keeper. Cars kept the pressure on but an inability to make the most of some great build up play was to lead to our own downfall. An unsavoury incident with Lloyds' seasoned centre forward and Jake Shaw, our 16 year old novice centre-half, led to Jake being subbed for his own good. Not what you expect on a Saturday afternoon in the SAL, and a pity as it was not in keeping with the rest of the game which was played in good spirits by both sets of players.
So we move on to the next game with a good spirit and determination to do better. If only we could have finished......
John Shaw (stand in skipper)
