SAL Division 7 – 11th November 2006
As usual Cars started off slowly and Poly had all the possession in the first 20 minutes. After some battling inside our own box, with a goal line clearance by Derek, we went 0-1 down courtesy of their tricky left winger. Five minutes later the ref called up for a penalty, apparently a Poly player had been pushed as he tried to head in from a corner. Their goal keeper stepped up to take it and justice was done with him shooting high and wide. This seemed to be the turning point for Cars who started to play football. Both Malik and Lewis had chances; all near misses and we went into half time with our heads held high. 5 minutes into the second half and a good through ball left Malik one on one with their keeper and he delicately rolled it past him - 1-1. Cars had been here before, but this time the back four held fast with Cesar and Derek sticking to their winger like glue. Ten minutes later Lewis got in front of their keeper from a cross and volleyed into the back of the net. We were winning 2-1. Poly had a bit of fight left in them and Matt did some brilliant work in goal, never letting Poly get near to scoring. Poly were obviously getting frustrated and ten minutes before the end Cars sealed it. Malik was brought down just outside of the box. Dean stepped up and curled the ball over the wall. The glove of the keeper managed to get to it, but was never going to stop it going in and Cars won 3-1.
A good team performance and this time matched with a good result, finally.
