SAL Division 7 – 9th December 2006
After suffering the agonising defeat to Old Actonians we came into this game with mixed feelings. We got off to a fairly good start with good ball movement around the pitch. We conceded a goal first but not too long after Cars were awarded a penalty which was steered wide by Malik (unlucky son). Soon after we were awarded a free kick with Jay Breen equalising off the rebound which brought both sides level. We were battling all over the pitch at this point but unluckily we let in another goal which made it 2-1. Malik was fouled near the touchline and Cars were awarded a free kick which Luke Iles turned in superbly. Both teams were dazzled by that goal. At half time the game was level.
The second half was the real battle for Cars as usual. We went 3-2 down early on. Another free kick led to Tommo receiving the ball and he then laid Malik on who only had to tap it in the back of the net. The score was now 3-3. Cars were not done yet. Malik then managed to score another two goals with good passing from the midfield which took us 5-3 ahead. Poly pulled another goal which didn’t do much for them as Cars went up 6-4 with a late goal from Jon Smith. Slowly but surely we dismantled Polytechnic with our teamwork and steady play. Another solid performance from Carshalton 8s. Well done.
Now we look to take home another three points from our away game at the Civil Service.Malik Owusu
