WSYL - 9th October 2005
A win, but two very different half performances. The first half display was very encouraging with the team passing and calling very well, and winning the majority of the tackles, not letting Hampton settle on the ball at all. Hampton's only danger to us was from a couple of corners. Like most of our games, we created enough chances to turn around at half time by more than the 2 – 0 score line. The first goal came mid way through the half, after another fine passing move down our left hand side left Harry to side-step his marker and plant the ball in the bottom corner.
Our second goal from Connor, was a route one clearance from within our own half, where their goalkeeper misjudged the bounce as the ball sailed into the goal.
As the second half progressed Hampton started to come into the game more , mainly due to our own performance which was the complete opposite from the first. As our defensive duties were not being carried out, Hampton found themselves on a number of occasions with an unmarked player in our area. Luckily for us they did not take their chances , who knows what the score would have been had both sides been able to convert their attacks. Finally Hampton did score after a bit of a scramble in our box as we dwelled on the ball too long, rather than clear the danger first time. .Although we still created a few chances our defensive side to our game was just getting worse and it wouldn’t had been a surprise if Hampton had equalised.
A very disappointing performance overall from a game which we were in total control of, to just about hanging in there at the end, to claim the points. A good steady game from Josh in goal gave him the man of the match award.
See you all at training to work on our defending – don’t be late.
