WSYL Invitation Cup 1st Round -  30th October 2005

A game in which we started in our normal bad way, which is to concede virtually straight from the kick off.  We need to be switched on from the start and pick up the opposition players,  rather than  leave them unmarked.  Lets start doing this from next week.

From this early set back,  the boys heads didn’t drop as we got on top of our game,  and started to play like a team that has only lost once this season. A number of chances were created that should have led to our equaliser but missed opportunities and some good goalkeeping prevented this. We finally levelled the game after 15 mins,  where our passing took us across the front of their penalty box to find Liam on our right hand side to strike the ball home – a good team goal.

We continued to create more chances and restricted Manorcroft to set pieces only.  It was from one of their corners just before half-time,  where we were not fully concentrating, that their defender found himself unmarked to slot the ball home to regain the lead.

The boys responded well to the half time team talk to take full control of the game. Our passing down our right hand side was very effective with Jack T having his best game of the season. It was not too long in coming before we drew level from a well taken individual goal from Harry. We were now playing and creating some great chances only to be denied by their goalkeeper. The winner came from Jack L with about 5mins remaining with Manorcroft not clearing the danger from their goal line,  Jack slid in to toe poke the ball over the line.

Overall another fine team performance.  It would be nice if we can eliminate these silly mistakes we make at the beginning of the game,  which would make our task of winning a lot easier and more convincing.
