WSYL -  13th November 2005

A match that was very frustrating for the players as well as the spectators, due the lack of handling by the match official.  As a Club we are reticent to criticise referees, who have a difficult job, but when it leads to a farcical match and spoils it for the boys, then we need to report to our club officials.  Today was a point in case.

We were in control of the game, but there were times when we didn’t clear the ball first time in defence, which had we’d been playing a stronger team, we would have been punished.  Jack L opened our scoring midway through the first half with a well taken goal after being put through from Jack T.  We had "scored" earlier when Cheznie put the ball into the net directly from a corner.  The ball bounced off the inside of the net at the far post - we celebrated, but to our astonishment the ref allowed Oxshott to continue to play when it was so obvious that the ball had gone into the net.  This situation was repeated in the second half when Connor’s strike from outside the penalty area entered the goal below the cross bar; again no goal was given.  Harry grabbed our permitted second goal just before half time,  after going past two players and then rounding the goalkeeper.

As the second half progressed, the ref’s lack of decision making affected our performance on the pitch. To their credit the boys continued to keep battling on despite some incredible decisions.  We created enough chances to have won this game but were denied by the frame of the goal on at least five occasions plus a number of good saves from their keeper.

Sorry to Cheznie for not mentioning his well deserved Player of the month award for October.

Thanks to all our supporters today for keeping all their frustrations quiet,  through a difficult game.  As we have emphasised, any complaints must be given in writing to our Club officials and we have submitted a report on today's incident.  Touchline arguments and confrontations server no constructive purpose. Your control was greatly appreciated.
