WSYL Invitational Cup- 27th November 2005
An enjoyable cup tie played out between the two teams. Carshalton put Kew under pressure straight from the start, but Kew’s defence held firm, winning a number of final ball tackles to deny us an opening. Kew broke very well from defence to attack, but their final pass was letting them down.
As the first half wore on we were getting on top, with only some good defending and missed opportunities stopping us from taking the lead. As our possession increased, Kew were getting more players behind the ball and playing on the break. The breakthrough finally came after 15 mins, with Mark scoring with a bullet of a header into the roof of the net, from our fifth corner of the game, from just inside the penalty box. It was not long afterwards that Cheznie scored No2, after being put in the clear from Harry’s pass between their last two defenders.
As the new half began, the next goal was going to be crucial to either team. We continued to dominate play with some wonderful first time passing to stretch the Kew defence. Only our final ball, touch or shot let us down. Kew continued to battle, and kept to their game plan of getting sufficient players behind the ball.
A very good solid all-round performance from the boys, which more than justified the two goals we did score.
Semi finals next round.
