WSYL - 8th January 2006
Carshalton were straight on the attack from the kick off, pinning Cannons in their half for much of the first half. Although we were opening up their defence and creating numerous chances to have the game wrapped up at half time, we only managed to score once through Cheznie punishing a defensive error. As the half wore on Cannons were looking threatening on the break, and it was through our own poor defending that they equalized, after their forward was allowed to go through three challenges, with us not closing him down earlier enough and tackling convincingly enough.
Within minutes of the second half we found ourselves a goal behind to a not too dissimilar goal to their first. This goal was only their second chance and gave Cannons a big lift and a much improved second half performance. We responded by bring on a third forward and did not have to wait long before Harry paid off our move. We then went into a period of pressure on the Cannons goal which resulted in a further goal from Harry and then from Liam to restore our lead. With still ten minutes to play, the football played from both teams was now flowing from end to end. Although we had the majority of the chances with a number of good saves from their keeper, they were always a threat when breaking out down the middle through their two fast forwards.
Hopefully the wake up call we got from today's game, will put us in the right frame of mind for next week's League Cup semi–final.
