WSYL - 26th March 2006
A game we started with not all boys switched on but finished up in total control.
Playing against the wind in the first half, we struggled to get a hold on the game. Casuals used the wind to their advantage by hitting long balls from the back, for their forwards to run onto and causing problems for our defence. We seemed not to be in a hurry in clearing the danger straight away but dwelling on the ball far to long, and not keeping a close enough eye on our opposition when they were breaking out from their half. Although we were making it hard for ourselves, Casuals didn’t really have any significant shots on goal and only really tested us from corners. Our one bit of play where we actually passed the ball first time between the midfield and the forwards resulted in a great team goal which left Casuals admiring our quick one touch passing as we notched up our 100th goal of our league campaign.
Turning around with a 2 – 0 advantage, the boys started the half by upping their game and Casuals soon found themselves a further two goals behind within the first five minutes. The team were now playing with more confidence, and the passing and communication improved greatly. Casuals continued to play on the break, but were now finding it harder to do so as we mopped up any through ball they played, with some intelligent simple passing moves started by our defence. The goals came at regular intervals throughout the half and could well have been more but for some fine goalkeeping. Casuals did get a consolation goal at the end through a penalty.
A great second half performance today, if only we had started the game in this manner we would have reached double figures.
Well done boys.
