Friendly - 16th July 2005
First 11-a-side game for both sides on an full sized pitch - and in extremely high temperatures. Considering both teams had not played together before, there were lots of positives to take from the game for both managers. Carshalton started slowly in the first quarter and only a well taken goal from Jake, curling his shot into the far post, separated the sides at the end of the first 15 minute period. Stanley Park were very unfortunate not to equalise just before the break when they hit the bar after a scramble at a corner.
We made a few positional changes and this paid immediate dividends, as the Carshalron boys passed the ball, creating more clearcut opportunities. Arran (2) and Kristian made the score 4-0 at half time.
Kristian knocked in another and then Ruaridh scored 2 from close range, before Bami scored the final goal right on the full time whistle. Goal of the day was definitely our second, after Luke released Ruaridh down the left and his cross was met on the volley by Arran, who steered it into the far corner.
Many thanks and best wishes to Neil Short and his team for this coming season. They did very well in difficult conditions and all played with the right attitude. The scoreline was a little harsh on them and they can be very proud of how they played. It was good to see former Carshalton players Luke and Jordan, as well as Light Blues (Wallington Little League) player Harry. All acquited themselves very well
Thanks to Sam for playing in goal while Dan was away (and filling in at left midfield in the last quarter). Many thanks also to Beddington CC for agreeing to host the fixture during their season.
Lots of good points on display today. Wednesday's game against a newly promoted Epson & Ewell Division 1 side Carshalton on the Hill FC will be a big test for us. We are looking forward to it.
