WSYL Cup - 13th November 2005
As the scoreline suggests, this was a bit of a mismatch, with Carshalton's Premier Elite experience proving too much for their Premier Central opponents. Carshalton played to their ability and were 8-0 up at halftime. I won't go through the goals, some of which were the result of specific instructions given before the start of the game, others down to individual skills and others down to excellent team play. All 13 boys played very well and this result shows the progress made by the team in the past 2 years.
There were a number of notable performances, but I'm going to highlight only 3. The other 10 boys can be proud of the way they played. Lewis has been sub for much of this season, but showed why he is a valuable asset to the team with an opportunist hattrick. He has been very patient waiting his turn and typifies the spirit in the squad. Another in a similar position is Michael. He was made captain today in recognition of the improvements he has made this season, particularly in putting into practice what his coaches have instructed. He was all over the pitch again, and won important headers - an area of particular improvement this season. Jake put in a man of the match performance. His understanding with Luke has given us a very strong left side, balanced with Chris and Arran down the right. Today he was virtually unstoppable and thoroughly deserved his hattrick.
Full credit to the Whitton Wanderers players for showing a lot of character, especially in the second half. When many teams might have folded, they battled right to the end and were a credit to their manager and club for the way they fought back and for the spirit in which they played the game. Good luck to you for the rest of the season.
Next week we face a very tough game at home to Corinthian Casuals who defeated Ashford Town 2-0 on Sunday.
