WSYL Premier Elite Division - 20th November 2005
Another game where we conceded too many goals. Casuals played the better, more controlled football and played very well. We competed with them, certainly in the first half, but gave away too many naive goals to have any chance of winning the game. Casuals opened the scoring with a lob over Dan, but we soon hit back to lead 2-1 with both goals being fine individual efforts from Kristian. Slack marking on the edge of the box meant that the score was 2-2 at halftime and it appeared to be anyone's game.
Unfortunately Mitchell had to go off sick at halftime. We never really captured the same form and a few boys had a bit of an off day. However, there was certainly no lack of commitment and effort, despite the score racing to 5-2, as Casuals scored some good goals. Michael volleyed an excellent reply to bring us back to 5-3 with 4 minutes to go, and we had a real go at them, only for Casuals to score another. The penalty they scored might just be the best penalty I've seen at any age group!!!
Well played to both sets of players. A fantastic game of football played in an excellent spirit and well refereed by Club Captain Shaun Swan - thanks mate. Good luck to John and his Casuals. Another enjoyable game in this very demanding division. Plenty of lessons to be learned by the management, players and spectators. We will continue to improve while we play these sorts of teams. We are really a lot closer than the scorelines suggest.
Big cup game next week at Hamsey Rangers. Let's get our cup form back for next week - we might even play in our away strip!!!
