WSYL Cup - 4th December 2005
Not a classic game, but Carshalton certainly did enough to win, though we made hard work of it. Certainly no complaints about effort, workrate and desire, but a little more composure on the ball was required on a stickier than normal surface. Despite territorial advantage, Carshalton were unable to fashion clear cut chances though there were a few scrambles in the Rocks Lane box. At halftime we managed to regroup and focus on getting shots off rather than trying to walk the ball into the net.
The longer the game remained 0-0 the more vulnerable we because at set pieces, but we defended well enough. We began to move the ball better and at last got the breakthrough with Jake sliding the ball into the far corner with a brave lunge. Soon after this the game was made safe when Lewis knocked home from close range. Kristian completed the scoring late on when the keeper spilled the ball and he was in the right place to take advantage.
Rocks Lane hit the post and competed well in midfield and defence but didn't have any penetration up front, so once the first goal went in, it changed the complexion of the game. In the end it was a comfortable scoreline and a number of boys had outstanding games in the green shirts - notably Jake, Arran and man of the match Ben. Those mentioned by name can also be happy with their contribution to the team performance.
We now face Epsom Eagles in the semi finals, date to be confirmed. Next week we have a crucial game with Oxshott Royals.
