WSYL Premier Elite Division - 15th January 2006
After the hugely disappointing performance of the previous week, it was essential that Carshalton got their season back on track when they made the trip to Barnes for their game against Rocks Lane. Things did not start too well. The opposition and some of our players did not arrive until just before kick off, the pitch was tiny, and the home team were unable to supply a match ball or pump. As for the sight of our linesman (thanks Dean for volunteering) with a branch provided by the referee, well if only we had a camera!
So the game started and Carshalton took the game by the scruff of the neck without really playing the kind of football they are capable of. Carshalton opened the scoring after 10 minutes, when Kristian forced the ball home from close range after a mad scramble in front of goal. These are the sort of chances we have been failing to convert to our cost in the past couple of games. Once ahead, there was only going to ber one winner. Carshalton created and missed countless chances to increase their lead, while Rocks Lane also managed to create a few themselves. A second goal was vital and after sustained pressure and a number of near misses, Carshalton increased their lead when a shot from a rebounded corner was struck in from a tight angle, catching everyone (including the referee, team mates and spectators on the sidelines) by surprise. Still not sure how Kristian managed to score! The scoring was completed when Kristian completed his hattrick with a fine run and shot.
Really impressive performances from everyone, with special mention going to Dan in goal and the whole defence - Ryan, Luke, Chris and Owen. Ben and Mike had stand out performances in midfield. Those not mentioned by name also played extremely well.
Plenty for us to work on to improve our game, but an important result and a much better display. The attitude was much better this week. We seemed to be much more up for the game than the games against Gas and Oxshott.
Molesey Juniors away on Sunday, so everyone should know where the ground is, given that we have already travelled there only for the pitch to be frozen. Weather forecast is much better this week!
