WSYL Premier Elite Division - 26th February 2006

Carshalton's U11s faced Tooting & Mitcham, their opponents in April's League Cup Final, in a league match on Sunday.  After a one sided affair at Beddington Park in January, Tooting & Mitcham came into the game in confident mood.  However, this game was a much closer affair, with Carshalton showing a battling spirit and giving their opponents a really good game. This was much better than recent performances from Carshalton with every boy giving his best.  Positional changes were made in an effort to press the game and all boys acquitted themselves well under difficult circumstances.

Arran came close to opening the scoring when he held off the last defender and poked the ball past the oncoming keeper and just past the post from 20 yards.  Tooting & Mitcham took the lead towards the end of the first half.  Undeterred, we continued to battle for everything, pushing an extra man up front and going to 3 at the back.  Dan made a couple of excellent saves as we pushed for the equaliser and were exposed by Tooting's composed passing play.  Tooting secured the win with a very well taken goal.

At the final whistle there were frustrated faces on the Carshalton players - a far cry from what happened in the previous encounter with Tooting & Mitcham.  There was certainly no frustration from the Management and parents who were rightly proud of the boys' performances.  With the same attitude we can look to pick up some points in the next few games.  Still plenty for us to work on, but if we continue to improve and develop, then who knows what might happen at the cup final.
