WSYL Premier Elite Division - 19th March 2006
Normally a point away from home to Corinthian Casuals would have been viewed as a point gained, but this week it feels like 2 points dropped. 1-0 up midway through the second half and a number of chances to increase the lead, but we conceded late in the game and failed to score another. Dan had very little to do throughout the whole game, which is not something we can say very often.
Still, this was a much improved performance and a big confidence booster. We played much more as a team, in fact as a squad because all players contributed. We were much more up for the game and it showed.
Arran had another fine game in his new roving role and linked up well with Mitchell, whose sheer presence caused problems when we got the ball forward to him. Kristian had a good first half on the right of midfield and he is getting more used to playing this position. Lewis came on in the second half and caused problems throughout the second half in the same position. On the left, Jake put in a really hard shift and with a bit more composure might have got on the scoresheet. Ben and Ruaridh played in midfield, showing in glimpses just what a fine midfield partnership this could be. We need to make sure one of these holds this position in front of the back four. At the back Owen and Ryan were very solid in the middle, while Chris and Luke had good games at full back. The most impressive performance was given by Michael who played out of position at right back in the first half, left back in the second and was positive before, during and after the game. That is the sort of attitude we need.
Our goal was scored by Ruaridh. He mishit his initial shot, but as the ball rebounded back to him, he neatly flicked the ball into the corner from 6 yards with the outside of his foot. We looked like we would hold on for the win until Casuals equalised when a drilled low cross was turned in from close range. The annoying thing was that we could have cleared the danger beforehand. As long as we learn a lesson from this.
Well played boys, one and all. Much, much better. Thanks again to all the parents for their excellent support. Thanks also to John Phillips and his boys for an enjoyable game - but can we play on your normal pitch next season - that one was awful!! Well done also to the young referee Craig Wise who had a fine game.
We will be training as normal on Tuesday at Beddington Park (6.30pm). We will also be training on Saturday morning at Beddington Park from 10am. There will be no game this coming Sunday (Mothers Day, clocks go forward). Please can those who have not paid their £20 training fees please do so this week. Also please remember to bring your completed Fulham FC forms (and cheques) to training this week.
