Surrey Youth & U21 League - 8th October 2006

This was a very scrappy game in which we should have won by more than the final score reflects.  Despite having the majority of possession, we were still not putting our foot on the ball and playing simple passes and keeping hold of the ball, but just kicking it forward and hoping it goes near one of our players. On the rare occasions we played the ball out wide, we were able to progress on both flanks and cause AFC problems, but unfortunately most of the game the ball was in the middle of the park.

It was pleasing to see that when the goals went in they were all finished in clinical fashion leaving their keeper stranded. Particularly the last few set up by Mark by playing  diagonal passes behind their defence.

The half time talk was spent trying to get one of the other boys to go in goal as our regular keeper was not around.  In the end I had to ask a child on the touch line to pick a number. Liam was the unfortunate one, but pulled of a great penalty save when we got caught napping at the back and he was rightly rewarded with the MOM award.

Although we made very hard work of this victory, at least our second half performance was on par with the first and not as it has been in recent weeks.

No game next week.

Training
If you are unable to attend, can you please inform Terry or Drew before Thursday as I do not want a repeat of last week with people phoning up at the last moment or not even bothering. We both don’t want to be wasting our own time when only 5 boys would have been coming, particularly as Drew had to wait for Sharon to drive over from Worcester Park to pick him up through all the added traffic of the roadworks and Wallington Grammar open evening.

This also applies to league and cup games where I need at least a months notice of any games you are unable to make so that we can get the game cancelled, if necessary.
