Surrey Youth & U21 League - 26th November 2006
After our last couple of displays, I was expecting another good team performance and a victory. What we got today were two very different half displays from us, with the first half being very good at times, to a second half which did not look like it was the same team.
On to the game itself. Carshalton started off in a very confident mood passing the ball well and with our two wide players having the better of their opponents. We were creating problems for their full backs and this resulted in our first goal from the left with Terry getting past his marker to strike at goal and Harry prodding home the rebound from the keeper. Harry put us in a commanding lead 10 minutes later by picking up a through ball from Niall to round the keeper. Although we were in control Links did cause us problems on the break through the centre as we were to find out later.
The team talk of keeping it going as we are went straight out the window for the second half. Whether the boys got over confident I don’t know, but the boys were just not playing anything like they were earlier. Players were not tracking back, marking and giving their opponent two yards space around our penalty area... Links wanted it far more than we did. I could sense that Links would score but not 2, and annoyed at how easily both goals occurred, particularly the equalizer with at least 3 unmarked players after we had initially cleared the first ball and then stood still. Players need to keep close to their opponent at all times when defending and be aware what’s happening around them, rather than stand still when their player or ball has passed them . There were a number of times when our front two particularly Harry had to track back to do someone else’s job when our attacks broke down.
Thank you to Mark for stepping in today as our goalkeeper.
Another two points thrown away cheaply. We need to learn quickly to perform for both halves and more so when we are in the lead at the break, as we found to our cost today with two late conceded goals.
Hopefully we will achieve a training session and match with everyone there.
I’ve mentioned this countless of times, you need to contact me if your son is not going to attend training or not available for any games as we need to give at least 28 days notice if we have insufficient players in order to get the game postponed.
This is unfair to me and Drew and more importantly their team mates who train and then end up playing games with no subs.
So can you therefore please start informing us when you are unable to attend training so I can pass on the fixture details then. I want to know my team by end of training. Rather than me having to have a phone round on a Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
