Surrey Youth & U21 League - 11th March 2007
Played on a very disappointing surface, not at all suited to kids football, both teams did their best to play good football. Wimbledon took the lead early as the Carshalton players froze at the start of a game once again. We did manage to get back into the game and deservedly equalised through Simon, who led the line superbly all game. Indeed as we got to grips with the physically imposing opposition (what do they feed them on in Wimbledon?!) we played some excellent football and took the lead with the goal of the game - Arran finishing off a good move with a crisp finish high into the net from just outside the box.
Wimbledon came on strong towards the end of the half and scored a good goal themselves to take the teams in level. There was not much between the sides in the second half, but Wimbledon seemed to want it a bit more than we did and they scored their winner midway through the half. We woke up and put the Wimbledon defence under a fair amount of pressure in the last 10 minutes, but they held out to take all 3 points.
Some very good and committed performances from boys in green, but also a few boys waiting for others to do their jobs for them. We can coach technique, but we can't teach passion and desire. That has to come from within.
