Surrey Youth League Premier North Division - 13 April 2008

It is unlikely there is a better sight in our league than Beddington Park in April.  The pitches are in fantastic nick and the facilities are superb.  As for the weather, well it was sunshine, rain, sunshine, hailstones, sunshine, thunder and lightening.  Somewhat changeable.

Both teams made this game a real spectacle and it was Carshalton who ran out deserved winners - the margin of victory not really reflecting the dominance and chances created (again).  Our main worry was that with so many of the boys being on a football tour during the week, we would be a bit sluggish.  However, though not quite at our best, we did play some really good football at times and would have scored a lot more goals with a bit more composure, but great credit goes to the Redbrick keeper who had an inspired game between the sticks.

We scored a goal in each half.  The first came as the result of an excellent run into the box by Lewis, who unselfishly squared the ball to Simon who drove the ball left footed into the far corner from 10 yards.  Our second came with 15 minutes to play and this time it was Simon who made and scored it with a fine first touch, a knock past his marker and a curling right foot strike from just outside the box into the top corner - unstoppable.

What was especially pleasing was to see how well we kept our discipline as some robust challenges came in.  Well done lads.

Credit to the Redbrick management who were very complimentary about our setup and the way our boys play their football.  Let's hope they can do us a favour when they face Hook in a double header and Nutfield on Saturday.

Only one game to go now - Nutfield away.  We will be looking to avenge our only league defeat of the season.
