Carshalton U14

4 Jamie Cant, Arran Quain, Craig Barham 2

Badshot Lea

1

League – 27th October 2002

Carshalton beat Badshot courtesy of a first half strike from Jamie Cant and three second half goals from Arran Quain 1 and Craig Barham 2.  Squeezed in between was a goal from Badshot when we decided to switch off.  The visitors can have few complaints having been beaten by the better side on the day.

With the wind going to play a major part in today's game we knew we were going to have to play a short passing game to keep hold of the ball.  We kicked off playing against the wind, hoping to keep the score down and consolidate and then go  on the attack in the second half with the wind behind us.  Our first goal came from a prolonged amount of pressure with a fine passing move involving Luke Kitchiner and Leon Cole which saw Jack Milsom, playing up front, forcing a fine save by their keeper.  Jamie Cant followed up and hooked the ball into the net from an acute angle with his left foot, 1-0.

Surprisingly against the wind we were dominating play. The defence held firm against any attacks and played the ball around with confidence.  Badshot kicked off the second half with it all to do, 1-0 down and the wind now against them.  An attack by Carshalton saw us get a corner.  Arran Quain stepped up and used the wind to good effect, curling the ball straight in, 2-0.  We were looking comfortable.  Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration saw us concede a goal - 2-1 and all to play for.

A couple of substitutions saw us  regain the initiative - Craig Barham coming on and scoring 2 goals and making the game safe.  Overall a good team performance and I would like to mention a few names...

Chris Stevens - for his tireless running and holding the ball up in the first half when we needed it.
Jack Milsom - also for his contribution in bringing other players into the game and fine use of the ball.
Jamie Cant - for his never-ending running and distribution in midfield, and scoring a goal when we needed it.
Tom Franklin - also for his contribution in keeping Badshot hemmed in and tireless running for the team.
James Brown - a fine performance in holding the ball and using it to good effect (I won't mention the sitter that he missed)
Jordan Knight - in the first half nearly all of our keeper's throw outs were to him.  He linked up with the midfield, playing some fine balls to them and backing them up.
Luke Kitchiner - again for good work keeping the ball and backing up the midfield.
Tom Hughes and Dean Bruce - in the heart of the defence, they repelling everything thrown at us.
Craig Barham - for coming on and scoring two crucial goals for us.

I'm sure I have left someone out, but I have to say a good team performance in what were atrocious conditions.  We now have squad of players to be proud of and unfortunately they can't all play every game.  My thanks to the subs for their patience and their commitment and also to Cliff Cant for his coaching and being there today.
