Too Tough for Slough!

With some trepidation (having been unable to play any friendlies) we opened our season with the longest away trip.  Upon arrival at the Teikyo School in Wexham we discovered that the pitch had been double booked.  After some negotiation the school team cut their game short and we finally kicked off an hour late.

We started well putting Slough under some early pressure, but a miss hit back pass was pounced upon by their speedy number 15 who went one-on-one with Reece and slotted it past him.

Having received the wake up call, the boys pressed forward and after several attempts the equaliser came from Jacko, a shot almost from the corner flag that tucked in under the crossbar at the far post.  A thunderbolt from Jamie made it 2-1 at the break.

Jacko got his second, heading in a cross and new boy Rob completed the scoring with a great shot from outside the box.

Efforts to increase the scoreline were thwarted by Slough’s defence.  Their number 5 was particularly effective, sticking to Steve like glue.  Tired legs and an unwillingness to play possession football allowed Slough to counter-attack as the game drew to a close.  Reece maintained our winning margin with some goal-line acrobatics and a little scrambling around on the floor.

This result, I think, exceeded most of our expectations.  It was especially pleasing to see the three new boys Rob, Dan and little Charlie so readily at home in the team.

Up for the cup next week with a trip to Staines Lammas.

C’mon Carshalton!
