Junior Bees

1

Carshalton U15

2 Chris Tupper

League – 29th September 2002

The game against Junior Bees was always going to be difficult.  The 2pm kick off and long journey over to the other side of Heathrow Airport meant that Carshalton were always going to be on the back foot.  The fact that the weekend coincided with a Wedding celebration, a 60th birthday celebration and a number and other fund raising dos did nothing to help.

Carshalton started lacking their usual passing ability and it was clear that there were a lot of tired boys on the pitch.  Whilst Carshalton had the best of the first half chances, they were unable to find the net.  The referee did not help the cause as he was really far to far behind the game and despite trying hard was just too far off the action.  Junior Bees opened the scoring with a move, which saw Mark Cowhig beaten for the first time this season.  Although Carshalton battled hard with Richard Matthews in defence acting as the linkman to the Carshalton attack, Carshalton were clearly not firing on all cylinders and at half time the score remained 1-0 to the Bees.

After a "firm" talking to by manager Graham Polley, the second half proved a completely different game.  Aaron Williams came to life and he and Danny Coombes and Robert Turner started to inject life into the Carshalton attack.  Shortly after the break Chris Tupper's somewhat controversial goal (was it off side or not? - thank God for the man in black) squared things and Carshalton looked to have the upper hand.

An excellent tactical move by the management team, who changed the formation to  4-3-3  helped with Oliver Adams adding that extra spark to the attack.  Chris Tupper capitalised on this change and Carshalton moved to a 2-1 lead.  The Carshalton attack could have had further goals but at the end of the day the Juniors were happy with the result.

The one thing everyone took from this game was confidence is great - complacency is another thing.
