Surrey Cup – 17th November 2002

It was clear that Chipstead had done their homework and knew just how good Juniors were.  They were up for the game and in the first ten minutes were taking the game to Carshalton.  Carshalton seemed to be going through the motions and were allowing Chipstead far to much of the game.  An early goal from Chris Tupper seemed to settle things although even this did not kick start the Juniors and get them playing to their true ability.

At the half time talk it was clear that the Carshalton coaching staff were as frustrated as the Carshalton spectators as it was made clear to the boys that everyone expected more.  The second half started and that was what we got!   Oliver Adams quickly took Carshalton to two nil.  At this there was a sense that Carshalton would be happy to say job done.  However, following what can only be described as an 'iffy' refereeing decision and despite Mark Cowhig's efforts to save the penalty, Carshalton found themselves at 2-1 and to quote a Chipstead boy 'Game on'.   Little did he know as within seconds of the restart following an early release Jack Mesure made it 3-1 and to quote Tyson Philips 'Game Off'.

After the third goal Carshalton seemed to step up a gear and the spectators were treated to an exhibition of football, which was outstanding.  Carshalton had switched to a bold 4-3-3 formation and were running riot.  Jack Mesure scored the fourth goal after a string of passes which would have made any Premiership manager proud.  The final goal was even better with Robert Turner linking up with Jack Mesure to get a cross in for Chris Tupper to slot home.  Game very much over!!!!

Carshalton now progress to the last 16 of the Surrey Cup where they will play either GOLDSWORTH PARK RANGER YOUTH or HERSHAM YOUTH.  We all wish them well.
