League Cup  – 19th January 2003

The game started late after a pitch inspection and it was clear from the outset that Carshalton were up for it and the late cancellation of last week's game against West Middlesex Colts had done nothing to disturb the Carshalton boys' focus.

The first twenty minutes were nothing short of breath-taking.  Carshalton were not taking prisoners and pinned Hampton back into there half in such an impressive way that after the 4th goal the Hampton boys were rocked to their foundations.  Many a lesser side would have collapsed, but Hampton kept battling and it is to their credit that they continued to make a game of it.

Whilst Dan Coombes did not get on the score-sheet, he was Graham Polley's man of the match.  Dan had the unenviable task of playing down a very sticky middle and did so very well, setting up a number of the Carshalton goals.  After half time Carshalton scored further goals and looked in complete control.  The Carshalton boys looked very comfortable and, given the score, took the opportunity to try a number of new moves.  All round Carshalton looked impressive and with the players playing as they are, team selection must be extremely difficult.  The only thing that spoilt proceedings was Aaron Williams getting booked for dissent

At the end of the game the Hampton manager was very complimentary saying that Carshalton had given his boys a lesson in football.
