League  – 6th April 2003

The game that was so long in the coming finally took place and what a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The game against West Middlesex Colts (WMC) had been called off twice - once through the WMC parents not  willing to travel because of high winds and the second down to a frozen pitch.  Well no excuses today with near perfect conditions.

Carshalton came out for this game all fired up after an excellent training session yesterday.  A big thank you to Jamie and Peter Booth for giving up their Saturday afternoon to give the boys that extra special lift.  The session went very well and certainly helped to focus the boys.

Carshalton opened the game well and looked confident.  Their passing was good and WMC were having great difficulty containing the flowing play.  End to end stuff and how entertaining.  Dan Coombes in midfield was nothing short of inspirational, winning all the balls in the air and even when you thought he lost a ball, regaining it.  Tyson Phillips up front was taking a lot of stick and giving the WMC defence a major problem - so much so that he was letting Jack Mesure have the sort of space that few forwards enjoy at this level.

The Junior's defence was rock solid and throughout the whole game looked unworried. The deadlock was broken when Darren Wells (defender!) hit home from a great Oliver Adams corner kick.  Juniors held firm until half time and all looked well.  Little did anyone know what was to come in the second half.

Jack Measure (two goals) with Chris Tupper and Jack Goodman also scoring made WMC look ordinary.  Graham Polley said after the game this was pre Christmas stuff -  the sense of self belief was back.  Each and every boy in the squad played or supported well.  He was delighted.

Whatever Carshalton achieve or don't achieve this year the win today meant that Carshalton had beaten each and every side in the top league in Surrey (some twice).  Let's be proud of that - let's win the next three games and the cup final and then LETS HAVE A PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
